For Episode 1 of .5 (read as point 5), it's called Journey to the East because well, it literally is the journey to the east (of Singapore). I've stayed in the north my entire life until a few years ago when we moved to the west of the country. So, the east is really pretty much foreign territory to some extent, even though Singapore is so tiny.
And as much as I tried, I couldn't put whatever I wanted to say into a single narrative so, I'm just going to break them up into points, listed according to chronological order.
I saw
new sights. The buildings looked so different from the ones regularly seen in the other parts of the country. Photos to prove it are above. (insert emoji of finger pointing up)
I touched
the hard and fairly smooth pleather of the SBS bus seats. I felt how comfortably my ass nestled into the chair and how my butt bones ached after 45 minutes in that position. (Not complaining though, it was a great ride.)
I heard
a group of primary school students heartily laughing to/about something not quite comprehensible to my nineteen year old ears. I was on the bus and plugged in but it was a pleasant surprise to hear their laughter. It was so airy and sincere and whole.
I smelt
the cool, fresh air of the east. Well, at least the quieter parts like the long walkway from ITE College East to Simei MRT. It even smelt a bit flowery, which is quite rare even in this really green looking country.
I tasted
cold, soft, creamy McDonald's ice cream. It was the perfect pick-me-up after a 2-hour bus ride and walking the wrong way (I walked to Simei MRT instead of Tampines MRT, which made the walk twice as long - stupid, I know. I ended up taking the mrt back to Tampines from Simei). It was especially awesome because I didn't have to pay for it! haha a friend decided to buy it for me (thank you).
So, yes, these are the 5 points I picked up this week. It was a pretty unremarkably remarkable journey from west to east but I guess that's why it's special (in some ways). Can't wait to see what future contributors are going to write about!
