Slumber
The idea of sleep is a universal comfort - nothing soothes the soul like the sight of your bed after a long day out there in the world.
When you first enter your room, the dry air tastes almost sterile due to the air conditioning. Of course, the cold is certainly welcome after a long day of enduring the humid weather. The bed creaks a little as you settle in, followed by the soft “whomp” your pillow makes as your head falls onto it. You shift around under your blanket, snuggling into it as you try to find the most comfortable position.
The most important thing for you, of course, is the feel of the sheets against your skin. Soft does not even begin to describe how utterly blissful the smooth cotton feels when you run your hands over them. It’s even better if they are new, clean sheets, still retaining the soft floral scent of your mother’s favourite brand of detergent. The delicate smell only serves to make you drowsier, your eyes close slowly as your vision blurs.
The enveloping darkness grows deeper as you feel yourself drifting away into another world far from reality, sinking more into your little man-made cocoon as your eyelids finally close for you to slumber.
