Act 3 International recently brought here to Singapore a performance by Plutot la Vie called A Clean Sweep. It's been running from 2 March 2013 and the last show is tomorrow. It's catered to children aged 5 to 12.
It's something quite different from the usual children's theatre because this is a non-verbal performance. Everything is communicated to their young audiences through soundtracks, facial expressions, objects and actions. I volunteered for a couple of the shows and I think I've watched it at least 4 times. Each time, I laugh at the performers and each time, I realise something new. "Something new" didn't mean they added or subtracted things from the show. I meant I get new revelations about the storyline and about the characters each time I watch it.
The show is a real joy to watch and it was so heartwarming to hear all the children laugh, interact and enjoy the performance. Although there were some parts that I thought were a tad bit draggy and there were some parts that sometimes didn't turn out the perfect way they were intended to, the actors were wonderful in improvising and making everything work out to the liking of the audience (and hopefully, the performers too).
So, if you haven't already watched it, do catch it at Act 3 International at 126 Cairnhill Road ONE-TWO-SIX CAIRNHILL ARTS CENTRE Singapore 229707.
This photo below is of us volunteers (well, some of us. Namely, Kristalbel, Brendan and myself) together with the stage manager Yvonne (I hope I spelt that correctly) who was absolutely spot on with all the lights, sounds and baby powder. Please pardon my absolutely retarded looking face.
